BENGALURU: After many efforts, a criminal who organised his own dacoit group and fought police officers attempting to apprehend him was arrested in Bengaluru, police said on Friday.
Diwakar was shot at by a police officer after attempting to flee after assaulting and injuring two officers. He was struck in the leg and taken to a private hospital. He was wanted in connection with a case of dacoity that occurred a month ago within the boundaries of the Yeshwanthpur police station, according to authorities.
A group of seven people barged into an elderly couple's home and robbed them at gunpoint. The police had already made some arrests and were on the lookout for a few more suspects, including Diwakar. PSI Vinod Rathod of Yeshwanthpur received a tip on Tuesday that certain suspects were near the Hebbla Flyover in Bengaluru and went to the location.
They ran when they saw the cops, and as they were being pursued, one of them attacked a policeman, while Diwakar attacked Rathod with a knife, injuring him on his hand. After then, the accused was able to depart.
Later, authorities received information about Diwakar's hiding place near Jalahalli and headed there to apprehend him. Even as cops opened fire in the air, he attacked them again.
