In a dramatic escalation of tensions, Pakistan has confirmed conducting intelligence-based anti-terror operations within Afghanistan, triggering a volatile standoff between the neighboring nations. The situation escalated following accusations from Afghanistan that Pakistan's airstrikes claimed the lives of eight civilians. In retaliation, the Taliban government fired at Pakistani troops along the border, exacerbating the already strained relations. Pakistan has accused Afghanistan of harboring terrorists, an allegation vehemently denied by the Taliban.

The recent hostilities come in the aftermath of a security post attack in Mir Ali, North Waziristan, which resulted in the deaths of seven Pakistani soldiers. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has issued a stern warning against cross-border terrorism, asserting that Pakistan will not tolerate such acts. He emphasized Pakistan's desire for peaceful relations with its neighbors but underscored its zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism originating from across the border.

Addressing the apex committee, Sharif reiterated, "We will not tolerate any kind of terrorism from across the border. Under no circumstances." He emphasized Pakistan's commitment to maintaining peace but emphasized the need for action against terrorism.

Rise in Terror Incidents
Pakistan has witnessed a surge in terror activities, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Balochistan, following the TTP's decision to end its ceasefire with the government and the Taliban's takeover of Kabul. According to the South Asian Terrorism Portal, Pakistan recorded 527 terror incidents in 2023, resulting in hundreds of civilian and security personnel casualties.
