The sarpanch of the village of Palghar in Maharashtra, where the Monks were murdered informed about the incident. Sarpanch Chitra Chaudhary informed the media about the incident. She said that he came to know around 8:30 pm that a car had been stopped at the checkpost. In the next 15 minutes, she reached the checkpost from home. She saw the car and saw the Monks sitting in that car. The sages greeted her from inside the car. Sarpanch Chitra asked the Monks who they are and where they are going. While this conversation was taking place, a violent mob fired the tires of the Monks' car and overturned the car.

Sarpanch Chitra says that she was constantly trying to convince people till the police arrived. People were getting angry at her too, but she somehow kept the crowd under control for some two-three hours. When the police arrived at the scene at 11 o'clock in the night, two of the three people surrounded by the crowd had also put them in the police car. But when the elderly monk came out of the forest post holding the hand of the policeman, violent people broke into the elderly monks with sticks and beat them mercilessly.
