BANGALORE: Chennai Super Kings (CSK) went into the Chinnaswamy Stadium and left with an 8 run win over the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in a high-scoring IPL 2023 match.
Chennai set a massive target of 227 runs for Bangalore, with Devon Conway scoring an incredible 83 runs (45b, 6x4, 6x6) and Shivan Dube scoring 52 runs (27b, 2x4, 5x6).
In response, Bangalore lost their star batter Virat Kohli early on, but Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell's spectacular 126-run stand in just 61 balls kept them in the game the entire time. The Challengers were outscored by just eight runs on Monday night despite having both batters ejected in consecutive overs.
"His (Conway's) batting typically proceeds as follows: he takes some time to get comfortable at first, but if he plays, he plays for a very long period. You need a batsman who can score 83 runs on 45 pitches, bat at one end for 14–15 overs, and keep the strike rate up.
Prior to the game, we discussed his lack of impact on this front, but whenever he has, he has given CSK a chance to win, which is why they keep using him, according to former Indian cricketer and JioCinema IPL expert Parthiv Patel.
Bangalore appeared poised to steal this victory and pursue the enormous aim thanks in large part to the outstanding synergy between Du Plessis and Maxwell.
"This contribution gave RCB the best chance to succeed. The enormous strength of a relationship where he and Maxwell combined to get 126 off of just 61 never presented a problem in terms of the run rate needed. Really prepare them. I really appreciate how they didn't let dropping two wickets interfere with shot selection. They simply considered applying as much pressure as they could to CSK, according to Eoin Morgan.
Even while Maxwell and Du Plessis provided the Chinnaswamy crowd something to cheer about, Zaheer Khan, a former Indian bowler, saw a more significant weakness in the RCB batting plan outside of their big three of Kohli, Faf, and Maxwell.
"Given Virat Kohli's early dismissal, and the manner Faf and Max batted, we can see the pressure they were under. Since the rest of the middle order or finishers are inexperienced, if Dinesh Karthik is unable to produce in the manner in which he used to, these problems would continue throughout the entire season, according to Zaheer.
Even when it seemed like the game had turned in RCB's favour, MS Dhoni managed to keep his team's jitters under control. Graeme Swann, a former England spinner, expressed his satisfaction at seeing Dhoni emerge as the winning skipper. With barely 4 or 5 overs remaining, and RCB having the game in hand, I didn't think CSK would be able to maintain their composure. However, they maintained their composure, and they prevailed. Hats off to Dhoni, who today defeated the two monarchs, Swann remarked.
