Denmark: Following a record increase in the number of new Covid-19 cases, the Danish government has announced new restrictions aimed at preventing further virus transmission. According to reports, with 11,194 infections in Denmark in the last 24 hours, Parliament's Epidemics Committee confirmed that new restrictions will go into effect on Sunday at 8 a.m. until January 17, 2022.

"We must put a stop to all activity. All of us must limit our social contact. However, our goal remains to keep as many parts of society open as possible "Mette Frederiksen, Prime Minister of Denmark, stated at a press conference. Closures of cinemas, museums, zoos, and sporting events are among the new restrictions. Restaurants will also be limited to serving until 10 p.m.

"There is a particularly high risk of infection spreading in places where many people gather for a longer period of time," Health Minister Magnus Heunicke said at a press conference. Furthermore, Heunicke revealed that a total of 11,559 cases of the new Omicron variant have been reported in Denmark to date.

"The Omicron variant has changed the rules of the game, and we must now respond," the Prime Minister added. Frederiksen promised financial compensation to those affected by the restrictions in order to soften the economic blow to businesses.
