The Ramayana composed by Ramanand Sagar was first aired on television in the 80s and captivated the whole nation. Recently, due to the Coronavirus lockdown, the government decided to re-air it on Doordarshan and it again proved that it established its relationship with every generation. According to data released by BARC, the first 4 episodes of the Ramayana have garnered 171 million viewerships, of which the episode aired on Sunday alone received 51 million viewership.

Along with this, one of the major reasons for Ramanand's Ramayana to remain superhit today is its perfect casting. Also, there is no denying that Arun Govil as Lord Rama, Deepika Chikhaliya as Mother Sita, Sunil Lahiri as Bhai Laxman, Arvind Tripathi as Ravana and Dara as Lord Hanuman won hearts of the audience. At the same time, these actors have immortalized their characters with brilliant performances. Very few people know that when Ramanand Sagar approached Dara Singh for the role of Lord Hanuman,he refused it.

Actually Dara Singh felt that he was too old and would not be able to do justice to this character, hence he asked the makers to cast a young boy in this role. But it was the belief of Ramanand Sagar, that no one else could play the role of Lord Hanuman better than Dara Singh. Dara Singh could not say this belief of Ramanand Sagar and what happened after that is well known. How many Ramayanas have been made after Ramanand Sagar's Ramayana, but no artist has touched the performance of Dara Singh. At the same time, perhaps it is said that some character artist brings in his account from above.
