Answering to a written query in Rajya Sabha on Thursday, Satya Pal Singh, Minister of state for HRD clarified that the HRD Ministry doesn’t intend to discard Darwin’s Theory of evolution from the school and college curriculum. No such proposal has been made to do so.

"CBSE has intimated that Charles Darwin's evolution of species is a part of the curriculum under the elective subject of Biology for class 12,” said Singh, putting the query at rest. He later told that the ministry will not be considering any such proposal to omit Darwin’s theory of evolution from the curriculum.

Last month, at an event in Aurangabad, Singh made a controversial remark and claimed that Darwin’s theory to be scientifically wrong and suggested to remove it from the curriculum. This led to a hue and cry over social media. Even Union HRD Minister interfered and advised Singh to not make such remarks in future and leave this work to scientists after scientists associated with top science institution condemned it.

Singh has a history of making absurd remarks. It comes as a shock to know that he has been an ex-IPS officer and has served as the Commissioner of the Mumbai Police.
