Australian opener David Warner has said that hurrying back from injury to play in the Test series against India earlier this year was not the right decision. Due to this, their time of rehabilitation has become even longer. Warner missed the first two Tests due to a groin injury in the middle of the ODI series against India but played the last two Tests in Sydney and Brisbane. Warner had scored 5, 13, 1, and 48 runs in 4 innings of two Tests. The way he batted in the last two Tests, it was clear that he was not at the peak of his game. India had defeated Australia 2–1 in the Test series. Warner, 34, told Cricinfo that I decided to play two Tests of the series. I felt that I should be there and help fellow players. Looking back, I probably should not have done so, as far as the injury is concerned, I suffered a little loss. He said that if I had been thinking about myself, I might have refused, but I did what I liked best for the team.

Warner said that his injury was very bad and that he had never felt this way before. Warner now has to play in IPL (IPL 2021) where he is going to be seen captaining Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Warner's eye on 2023 ODI World Cup: Australia is going to tour the West Indies for the limited-overs series, but the schedule of the tour has not been decided yet. After this, Warner also has to play in the Hundred Series (100-ball match) in England in July-August. The Australian batsman is eyeing the one-day World Cup to be held in India in 2023. He said that I am not thinking about the end of my career at all, my eyes are on the 2023 World Cup.
