According to media reports, a team of scientists was formed in 1972 to solve this mystery. The team named a group of stones and studied it for seven years. Around 317 kilograms of stone named Kerin did not move at all during the study, but when scientists returned there after a few years, they found the stone one kilometer away.

Some scientists believe that due to high-speed winds, stones move from one place to another. Research suggests that winds running at 90 mph in the desert, night-freezing snow and a thin layer of wet soil above the surface will all move the stones together.
