The world's most expensive T20 cricket league IPL has been heavily fined. The IPL had to pay a compensation of Rs 4,800 crore for the wrongful removal of Deccan Chargers, one of the first 8 teams. According to media reports, the decision of this long-running dispute by the Bombay High Court has been pronounced in favor of the Deccan Chargers franchise on Friday.

Eight-year-old controversy: The whole issue is in the year 2012 when the Board of Control for Cricket in India terminated the contract of debt-ridden IPL franchise Deccan Chargers, the team was owned by Deccan Chronicles Holdings (DCHL). On 14 September 2012, the Deccan Chargers team was removed from the IPL by calling an emergency meeting of the IPL Governing Council in Chennai, then DCHL petitioned the Bombay High Court against this decision. After the Deccan Chargers were removed from the league, the board called for a bid for the new IPL team from Hyderabad, which was won by Sun TV Network's Kalanithi Maran into the Sunrisers Hyderabad team.

Retired Justice was watching the entire controversy: The Bombay High Court had appointed retired Justice CK Thakkar to investigate the whole matter. While Dheer and Dheer Associates were keeping the Deccan Chronicle's side, Maniree Srivastava Associates was going to be represented by the BCCI. Ashish Pyaasi, the partner of Dheer & Dheer Associates, said, "BCCI terminated the contract of Deccan Chronicle a day earlier. This challenge was regarding illegal and premature termination and the tribunal also considered it wrong". Prior to this, in 2017, the owner of another franchise Kochi Tuskers Kerala has also won a similar issue.
