Indian women archers Deepika Kumari and Ankita Bhagat have reached the semi-finals of the Asian Archery Championships and achieved Olympic quota in women's recurve. India reached the 2020 Olympic Games individual Olympic quota in archery on Thursday with Deepika and Ankita reaching the semifinals of the women's recurve event of the 21st Asian Archery Championship.

This continental qualification could have secured three individual places and the Indian archers put up a brilliant performance with top seed Deepika and sixth seed Ankita making it to the individual Olympics by finishing in the final four. Karma of Bhutan and Enguet do Thi Anh of Vietnam have secured the remaining two individual quotas.

Dipika did her best to reach the semi-finals by defeating Malaysia's Noor Afisa Abdul 7-2, Iran's Zahra Nemati 6-4 and local archer Narisara Khunhiranchaiyo 6-2, where she will face Enuguet. Ankita defeated Hong Kong's Lam Shuk Ching Ada 7-1, Vietnam's Nguyen Thi Phuong 6-0 and Kazakhstan's Anastasia Banova 6-4. Ankita will be in front of Karma in the last four stages. The Indian trio of Deepika, Ankita and Laishram Bombayla Devi are participating in the competition under the neutral flag due to the ban on the Archery Association of India. This is India's second Olympic quota in archery, before the men's recurve team of Tarundeep Rai, Atanu Das and Praveen Jadhav won the quota at the World Championships at the beginning of the year.
