A woman was arrested by the State Cyber Cell for allegedly defaming a girl by using her photo with obscene comments on WhatsApp status on Thursday. The accused girl and the complainant were friends but the later fell out. Cyber Cell inspector Rashid Ahmed said that one Gunjan (name changed) had lodged a complaint on September 10 that she received obscene messages from a girl's number and the accused girl used her photo with objectionable comments in her WhatsApp status to defame her.

After receiving the complaint, the cyber officials booked the accused girl named Vinita (name changed) under Section 66-C, 67 of the IPC and the investigation was done by inspector Ahmed and head constable Prabhakar Mahajan. The officials contacted the suspect woman, who allegedly confessed her crime and told the officials that she knows the complainant girl Gunjan since 2018 when they both were employed at a Spa Center in the city.

 In August 2020, Gunjan had used abusive language against the accused. Since then, the accused girl was planning to take revenge from Gunjan and she used Gunjan's photo with objectionable language and put it in the status of WhatsApp. A mobile phone and SIM card used in the crime were seized by the cyber cell from the girl.
