Delhi Airport Bomb Threat! Tight Security Deployed

After a bomb threat email to Delhi Police cautioned about terrorist group Al Qaeda preparing an attack on the airport, security at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport has been beefed up. According to an official statement from the airport, the threat was determined to be "non-specific" following an inquiry, and the Bomb Threat Assessment Committee (BTAC) was dismissed from the airport.

"However, an extra alert has been issued, and all security procedures at IGI Airport have been enhanced," the notification added.
"On Saturday, IGI police station informed Airline Operations Control Center (AOCC) at the airport about a bomb threat e-mail received with the subject of planned bomb blast by Al Qaeda Sargana at IGI airport stating that Karanbir Suri alias Mohamad Jalal and Karanbir Suri's wife Shaily Sharda alias Haseena are coming to India on Sunday from Singapore and plan to put the Bomb on IGI in 1-3 days," it added.

The Security Operations Control Centre (SOCC) found that a similar threat message had been received in the recent past, with the identical names of the couple and the same threat language. The SOCC notified all concerned agencies and issued a high-level warning to duty employees.

At IGI Airport, anti-sabotage inspections were conducted at all terminals, and access control, vehicle inspections at entry nakas, and AOR patrolling were increased. A meeting of the BTAC was also called. The threat was pronounced non-specific at about 7.18 p.m., and BTAC was terminated at about 7.22 p.m., according to the airport authorities. Delhi Police has been requested to look into the investigation report of earlier threat messages involving the same couple and also check up the e-mail source.
