New Delhi: Delhi BJP unit president Adesh Gupta has tried to drive state's Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal's attention towards the plight of gym owners, requesting him to allow them to reopen all fitness centres in the city. In a letter written to Baijal, the BJP leader said that the livelihood of about one lakh people in Delhi has been affected due to the closure of the gym.
Gupta said that "Financial activities are slowly resuming, but the health and fitness industries are still closed. There are about 5,500 gyms in Delhi, which employ about one lakh people, but they are facing a severe economic crisis due to the closure of gyms. Delhi BJP unit president Adesh Gupta also said that there are around 4,500 small and medium scale entrepreneurs whose livelihoods have been affected due to the closure of the health and fitness industry. So I urge you to consider the economic loss and allow the gyms to be opened as per the Central Government guidelines".
The gym owners were taken into custody by the police on Saturday after the gym owners staged a sit-in near the Lt. Governor's office to demand the reopening of health and fitness centres in Delhi.
