New Delhi: The Delhi Cabinet on Tuesday gave the green signal to continue the free Wi-Fi scheme in the country's capital. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) led Delhi government has so far claimed to have set up Wi-Fi hotspots at 10,561 locations across the city. An official said the Kejriwal cabinet has approved a proposal to implement a free Wi-Fi scheme to provide quality internet services to Delhi's citizens after successful implementation in the first year.
Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal had launched the free Wi-Fi scheme from the ITO bus stop in December 2019. The government had set a target of setting up 11,000 hotspots to provide free Wi-Fi across Delhi. Since then, hotspots have been installed at 10,561 locations. The Delhi government said in a statement that out of these, 2,208 hotspots have been installed at bus stops while 8,353 have been installed at other places. People are getting free Wi-Fi facilities every 500 meters. Now, more than 21 lakh people can avail free Wi-Fi facilities simultaneously.
According to officials, 15 GB of data free per month will be provided to each person under the scheme. A maximum of 1.5 GB of free data will be provided daily. The statement said every hotspot has a radius of 100 meters. On average, Wi-Fi is being provided at a speed of 100 to 200 MBPS.
