New Delhi: Ajit Agarkar and Shane Watson's relationship with the Delhi Capitals has come to an end as a result of their disappointing performances in the 2022 and 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) seasons. In 2022, Agarkar and Watson became assistant coaches for the team.
Delhi Capitals placed sixth the season before, but they only managed a disappointing ninth place in IPL 2023. Two coaches have been fired less than a month after the end of IPL 2023, which was predicted given the franchise's abysmal performance.
Ajit Agarkar may even take over as Team India's main selector in the future, according to rumours. The Delhi Capitals finished the 2022 season with a superior net run rate than the fourth-placed Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), who finished with eight victories during the league stage, but they were unable to qualify for the playoffs despite winning seven of their 14 games.

Delhi Capitals only managed to win five games during the 2023 season. As a result of Rishabh Pant's absence, David Warner took over as the team's captain. The Delhi-based team struggled to find a winning formula during the entire season and was unable to progress past the league round.
According to a recent announcement from the Delhi Capitals, Sourav Ganguly will remain the mentor and Ricky Ponting will remain the head coach. Prior to the IPL 2018 season, Ponting joined the organisation as the head coach.

By guiding the squad to the 2019 playoffs, he assisted the organisation in ending its run of failed seasons. During that season, Ganguly advised the Delhi Capitals, but he stepped down after a year to take the helm of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
In IPL 2020, Delhi Capitals made it to the top of the table, and in IPL 2021, they took first place. However, they were unable to proceed through the qualifiers in 2021, and since then, they have not gone past the league stage. Looking ahead to IPL 2024, it is projected that Rishabh Pant will be well enough to captain the squad and that there would be significant roster changes.
