New Delhi: Delhi court has refused bail to Tahir Hussain, the main accused in the February 2020 riots in the north-eastern part of the capital and suspended Aam Aadmi Party councillor. Additional Sessions Judge Vinod Yadav heard 2 FIRs registered in connection with the shooting of victims Pramod and Prince Bansal. His medical report from the 'Sushrat Trauma Centre' was presented before the court.

Justice Vinod Yadav said that it is not possible to spread riots in such a short span of time on such a large scale without any pre-planned deliberate conspiracy. The court said that when the accused has been involved in these cases, he cannot escape saying that he was not physically involved in the riots, so he has no hand in it. The court found that Tahir Hussain used his "muscle power and political reach" to spread communal violence in the area. Tahir Hussain argued in his defence in court that he belonged to AAP and became an accused in the circumstances. He claimed that he was caught in the middle of a political battle.

He described the allegations against him as part of political allegations to tarnish his image. He claimed that there was no concrete or legal evidence against him in these cases. The court held that the riotmob was armed with dangerous weapons. The court said the rioting mob set its target of looting, ransacking public and private properties and damaging the lives and property of a community besides arson. The court observed that in such a situation it would not be correct to say that the target of the main accused was different from that riot mob.
