New Delhi: The dispute between Delhi and Haryana over water sharing has reached the door of the court. The Delhi government has filed a petition in the apex court accusing Haryana of stopping water. The petition sought prosecution of Haryana authorities for contempt. The apex court has been requested to hear the petition at the earliest. The Delhi government has alleged that the Haryana government is blocking the right part of the water. Therefore, she is disobeying the apex court order in the case.

The petition sought initiating contempt proceedings against Haryana Chief Secretary Vijay Vardhan and Additional Chief Secretary of Irrigation and Water Resources Department Devendra Singh for deliberately abetment to the Supreme Court order. In that case, the Supreme Court had directed that the water level in Wazirabad reservoir would be maintained by the State of Haryana to meet the drinking water needs of the National Capital Region (NCR) Delhi as per its capacity.

According to the petition, in 1996, the apex court ordered Haryana to maintain the water level at the Wazirabad plant at a high level to meet the water demand of the capital Delhi. But still Delhi is not getting its share of proper water. Due to lack of adequate water supply from Haryana, the Wazirabad plant is only 31 per cent of its full capacity.
