New Delhi: In the 5th Airtel Delhi Half Marathon held in Delhi, Ethiopia's Andamlek Bellihu won the men's section and Shaye Gemechu in the women's section. The half marathon started at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in the morning. Ethiopia occupied the women's section in this marathon flagged off by India's Sports Minister Kiran Rijiju from the stadium. The first three places were won by Ethiopian runners. Ethiopia also finished second in the men's section while Kenya was placed third.

Belihu saved his title by completing the race in 59 minutes 10 seconds this time. He, however, missed the course record by four seconds. The course record is named after Gue Adola from Ethiopia, who established it in 2014. After the race, Belihu said "I missed the course record by four seconds. There is some disappointment. But this race was good for me. I am glad that I won. He was in second place. He took 59 minutes 17 seconds".

Kibiwot Kandy of Kenya finished third with a time of 59 minutes 33 seconds. Among the women, however, apart from saving the title, they have also been successful in breaking the course record. Shaye took an hour and six minutes. After winning the race, he said, "I was very tired after playing the World Championship in Doha. I am very happy to be here. I am happy to break the course record. It is also my personal best".
