The Delhi High Court issued a notice to the CBI on Friday regarding Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's bail plea in connection with the excise policy case. The court has scheduled the next hearing for July 17.

Arvind Kejriwal, the national convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party, sought bail from the Delhi High Court following his arrest by the CBI on June 26, 2024. In his petition, Kejriwal questioned the legality of his arrest by the investigative agency.

Justice Neena Bansal Krishna of the Delhi High Court issued a notice to the CBI and set a timeline for responses, with a detailed hearing set for July 17.

Kejriwal argued that his arrest was unjustified, particularly since the investigation had been ongoing for two years. He claimed that the arrest was based on old evidence without any new developments, making it illegal.

Since June 29, Kejriwal has been in judicial custody following an order by the Rouse Avenue Court.

The CBI, on the other hand, accused Kejriwal of non-cooperation during the interrogation. They also questioned his role in increasing profit margins for liquor wholesalers under the new excise policy without proper justification. The CBI further raised concerns about meetings and financial transactions during the second wave of COVID-19 and their potential impact on the investigation.
