New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Monday refused to stay the new IT rules saying it does not agree with the petitioners to pass such an order at present. State that The Foundation for Independent Journalism, The Wire, Quint Digital Media Limited and Pravada Media Foundation, a company running Alt News, had filed a petition in the HC seeking stay on the IT (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Code of Conduct) Rules, 2021.

In fact, according to new IT rules, social media and streaming companies will need to immediately remove disputed content, appoint officials to settle complaints, and cooperate in investigations. On this, these companies said that a new notice has been issued to them under which they will have to follow the rules, otherwise action will be taken against them.

A bench of Justices C Hari Shankar and Subramanian Prasad said notices were issued to these companies only to comply with the notification which has no restrictions. The high court told the petitioners, "We do not agree with you. We'll issue a big order if you want or if you want, we'll notify it again in front of the roster back. After taking the instructions, you tell us".
