Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain met with the family members of Dr. Sanjeev Kumar, who died after a battle with Covid, and gave them an ex-gratia payment of Rs 1 crore, Officials said on Tuesday.
On March 3, 2021, Dr. Kumar, a paediatrician at the Maharishi Valmiki Hospital, died. Kumar offered his services to residents of the confinement zone and home quarantine throughout the lockdown. While on duty, Kumar became infected with COVID-19. He died after being in the hospital for ten days.
"Even though the ex-gratia money would not be able to compensate for the loss caused to the families, I hope that the family will receive some assistance from this amount," Jain said in an official statement.

According to the official statement, the Delhi government has so far granted a 'Samman Rashi' of Rs 1 crore each to the families of 37 Covid warriors who died as a result of the virus while serving the people during the pandemic.
