The Delhi High Court on Friday 'dismissed as withdrawn' many Delhi University students' petition challenging the university's February 11 notice seeking direction for an offline examination for the even semester in May 2022.
After writing down the petitioners' submissions on Friday, Justice Rekha Palli observed, "Any order should not be passed at this time. However, the Court has granted petitioners the option of approaching the court again if their circumstances alter."

The petition also requested that for the current semesters, all examinations be conducted in open book mode. Despite the February 9 order, eight students, including outstation Delhi University students, indicated that the petitioners' and other students' classes continued to be conducted online, and that they were supplied links from time to time on their respective mobiles for attending their classes.

In the current circumstances, where the coronavirus is spreading swiftly and a huge number of persons are becoming ill in Delhi, the University should review its February 11 notice, according to the petition filed by Advocate Ajay Kumar Srivastava.

According to the petition, approximately 65 percent of those studying at Delhi University are outstation students who do not have access to travel to and from their colleges. It is quite dangerous for them to use public conveyance to attend their various examinations in the current situation.

The petitioners and other students who completed their semester entirely online cannot be forced to take the examination in person, according to the plea. The plea also stated that due to the change in the COVID scenario in Delhi, the Delhi University has decided to continue its year-long inaugural function in virtual form, and that there is no reason for conducting the even semester test in physical mode in May 2020.
