New Delhi: On Tuesday, Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena officially nominated Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Delhi's Home Minister Kailash Gahlot to hoist the national flag at the state's Independence Day celebrations. The event is scheduled to take place at Chhatrasaal Stadium. The LG’s secretary, Ashish Kundra, communicated this decision in a formal letter to Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar, instructing that all necessary arrangements be made for the event.

This nomination is particularly notable as it bypasses several senior Delhi government leaders who were previously considered for this honor, including Education Minister Atishi. The move is likely to exacerbate existing tensions between the Delhi government and the LG Secretariat. The decision comes amid a backdrop of political friction. Earlier in the day, the Delhi government's General Administration Department (GAD) rejected a directive from Minister Gopal Rai to arrange for Atishi to hoist the national flag in the city on Independence Day. The GAD’s refusal to comply with Rai’s direction has fueled the ongoing political discord.

The nomination of Gahlot, who is a prominent AAP leader and currently serves as Delhi’s Home Minister, has sparked speculation and controversy. Observers suggest that the decision might be seen as a deliberate attempt to sideline key figures within the Delhi government, further intensifying the strained relations between the AAP and the LG Secretariat. As the Independence Day event approaches, this development is expected to be a focal point of political debate and could influence the dynamics between the Delhi government and the Lieutenant Governor’s office.
