New Delhi: An eight-year-old girl was brutally murdered by her neighbour in the Narela area of the national capital. The family of the accused and the victim live together. Police have arrested the accused. However, the police have denied that the girl was raped in the case and blamed the victim's brother's strained relationship with the accused for the murder.

Giving information in this regard on Saturday, a senior officer said that the police received information about the girl's disappearance at around 10 pm on Friday. The accused was traced after examining CCTV footage about 150 metres from the victim's house. The accused was searched and arrested by the police around 11.30 pm, he said. According to DCP (Outer North) Devesh Kumar Mahla, the accused first tried to mislead the police, but after continuous interrogation, the accused revealed that he had a strained relationship with the victim's brother. He took her sister about a kilometre away from her house for the purpose of revenge and killed the innocent.

Police said the girl's body has been recovered and crime and forensic department officials have inspected the spot. The post-mortem report of the victim revealed strangulation and deep head injuries, but there were no clear signs of rape. The DCP said that on the basis of the missing complaint, the police have registered a case against the accused under various sections of the IPC and arrested him.
