Delhi Police detained an absconding accused Amanat Ali in connection with an alleged attempt to kill a 16-year-old girl in south Delhi's Sangam Vihar area, police said on Thursday.
Police said, Ali disclosed that the victim girl had been in contact with him through social media, and that she had recently ceased speaking with him, which made him upset and motivated him to kill the girl.
The victim, a Class-11 student of the Cambridge International School on Devli Road, received a gunshot injury on her shoulder. She reported to the police that three men on a motorcycle were tailing her while she was returning from school. She added that she knew one of the attackers and that the group fled after one of them fired at her at Sangam Vihar B block.
She identified him Amanat alias Arman Ali and said to have communicated with him on social media for two years. Around six months ago, she stopped communicating with Ali, but the accuser never stopped stalking her. According to the police, on Thursday at about 3.45 pm, information was received about a female in Sangam Vihar who had been shot.
A case was filed under sections 307 (attempt to murder) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). In the course of the investigation, Bobby, a man from Sangam Vihar's K block, was taken into custody. The DCP claimed that Pawan alias Sumit was also detained from the vicinity at the request of Bobby.
The accused admitted to the authorities that the girl first met Ali on social media two years ago. However, she stopped speaking with Ali about six months ago, and the latter harboured resentment toward her as a result. With the help of Bobby and Pawan, Ali devised a plan to murder the girl. They lost control of two firearms built in their own nation, along with three live and one empty cartridge. On Friday, the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) sent a notice to the local police requesting an update on the situation.
