New Delhi: The Delhi police have arrested two members of an interstate illegal arms supply gang, responsible for sourcing weapons from Madhya Pradesh and distributing them. The arrested individuals are identified as Rahim, also known as Beti, a 33-year-old resident of Madhya Pradesh, and Vishal Solav, also known as Atul, a 26-year-old resident of Maharashtra.
During the arrest, the police confiscated 20 semi-automatic pistols from the accused. These illegal arms were manufactured in Khargone, Madhya Pradesh, and were being sold for approximately Rs 30,000 each to end-users.
The police received a tip-off on March 14 indicating that Rahim and Vishal would be delivering a significant consignment of illegal firearms to an individual named Asif in Shahdara, Delhi. This consignment was allegedly procured from Sheikh Azam, also known as Ajju or Ravan, a resident of Baitul, Madhya Pradesh. Acting on the tip-off, the police apprehended Rahim and Vishal near Burari Chowk, Outer Ring Road, Delhi, and recovered 20 semi-automatic pistols from them.
Rahim, with a history of involvement in criminal cases related to the Excise Act and the Arms Act in Madhya Pradesh, has been associated with Sheikh Azam in illegal arms procurement and distribution. Vishal, on the other hand, disclosed his involvement in the illegal firearms supply syndicate, stating that Beti had roped him into the operation three years ago. Vishal would receive Rs 5,000 for each trip, during which he would transport the firearms received from Sheikh Azam to designated contacts.
Rahim's criminal activities began when he came into contact with undesirable elements in his area. While serving time in Baitul jail for an Excise Act violation, he met Sheikh Azam and later collaborated with him upon release. Rahim's modus operandi involved procuring illegal pistols from Sheikh Azam and other suppliers for distribution to criminals in Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, and Maharashtra. He has previously been arrested in more than five criminal cases.
