New Delhi: Several policemen were injured in the violence on the occasion of Hanuman Janmotsav in Jahangirpuri in the national capital. Among these policemen was ASI Arun Kumar. He suffered injuries to his leg and shoulder during the violence. Speaking to the media, he has said that he cannot describe the scene in words that he saw with his own eyes. He said that he had been walking with the Shobha Yatra from the beginning. His car was behind the car in which the statues were placed.
As soon as they reached Kushal Chowk, the ASI said. A crowd of hundreds suddenly started approaching the procession. "Words can't describe the scene I saw that day. There was commotion everywhere. People are throwing stones. They are abusing. We wanted to handle the situation, but no one listened to us. ASI Arun Kumar explains how people in that crowd had swords in their hands, knives, stones and bottles. They were trying to burn the car. The police were stopping them. There were attempts to calm the situation down. But, just then, a stone came down on the ASI. ASI Arun Kumar, a resident of Model Town, said this while talking to the media.
The ASI showed its injuries and explained how the processions were going out peacefully on Hanuman Janmotsav. His car was at the back of that procession. Then the people there started to do so. Seeing the situation, he knew that something big was going to happen now. He immediately gave further information about the situation and asked for more police forces to be deployed at the spot. According to ASI, he too had started trying to get out of the car and manage the situation, but the rioters gathered so much that nothing could be stopped. Some of the children were called and the cars were removed. Something remained. They were all breaking down. The fire was being set. Asi says, "I was extinguishing the fire of the car, in the meantime, a big brick came on my shoulder and fell on my shoulder.''
Looking at the circumstances, he said that the manner in which the Shobha Yatra was attacked was impossible without planning. ASI Arun also rejects the claim that provocative slogans were raised during the Shobha Yatra which triggered the riots. He said several policemen were injured in the violence. Many were stoned, one was shot, and someone was stabbed in the hand. He said that there was so much stone pelting that there was no place to stand. He explained how women were more among those who hurled abuses at the time of the Shobha Yatra. According to him, as soon as they came out of C Block, stone pelting started on them. The rioters had sticks, swords, rods in their hands all. They were hitting so many stones and bricks that people were running away leaving their cars.
