New Delhi: The Department-related Parliamentary Standing Committee on Science and Technology, Environment, Forests and Climate Change will hear the views of the Secretary, Ministry of Earth Sciences, and Director General-India on the next monsoon season.

On Monday, the Meteorological Department released "Monsoon Prospects and Projections for 2022."  The meeting will take place on Parliament grounds between 11 a.m. and 12 p.m.

Because the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a 'normal' monsoon for this year, or 99 percent of the Long Period Average (LPA) of 87 cm, and private weather forecasting agency Skymet has previously stated that the 2022 southwest monsoon could be 'normal,' finishing around the mid-point of the normal range of 96-104 percent of the LPA, the Committee will hear from the Secretary, Ministry of Earth Sciences and Director General-India Meteor

The southwest monsoon, which begins in June and finishes in September, is also expected to be discussed by the Committee. The South-west monsoon is a lifeline for Indian agriculture and a crucial determinant in the larger economic sense, providing more than 70% of the country's yearly precipitation.

In a letter to all 30 members of the Rajya Sabha last week, the Secretariat reminded them of the next meeting of the Department-related Parliamentary Standing Committee on Science and Technology, Environment, Forests, and Climate Change to conduct its work. All members of the Committee have been asked to attend the meeting while keeping social distance in accordance with official norms.
