New Delhi: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla urged on Saturday that people keep their surroundings secure and avoid wasting natural resources so as to raise awareness about environmental sustainability.

Birla, speaking at a Parliamentary Research and Training Institute event held on Parliament grounds, challenged the audience to think of new ways to protect the environment.

Noting that the environment is a serious issue for the entire world, Birla stated that environmental safety is extremely important, and that the issue of global warming is a major issue not only for India but for the entire world, and that climate change is the most pressing issue because it affects all aspects of life.

"Climate change has an impact on human life. Climate change has a significant impact on our economy and a range of industries. When the ecosystem is harmed, it has ramifications for society, the economy, and human health. The central and state governments are taking actions to combat climate change "Birla explained.

People agreed to start a struggle for environmental change in the Paris agreement, said Birla. He went on to say that industrialised countries pledged to not just save the globe by protecting the environment, but also to support developing countries. "Environment has always been a part of our existence," he continued, "as we used to worship trees, the Sun, the Earth, and water."

He went on to say, "It is something that our new generation should focus on. At a time when we are celebrating Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, this is your responsibility." "Freedom warriors were not sure whether they would obtain any post after the country was freed," Birla remarked, citing an example from the time of the independence movement. Therefore,  this is the time to fight to conserve the environment," Birla concluded.
