New Delhi: A head constable of the Delhi Police, identified as Kuldeep, faced a violent assault from four men after he stopped one of them for a routine license check. The incident unfolded at a police booth in the South Extension Part-II area on Friday afternoon. Kuldeep and Constable Mukesh, patrolling in civilian clothes as part of a special drive for the upcoming New Year celebrations, halted a motorcyclist named Chayank Seelelan for riding without a helmet and in an improper manner. Chayank's refusal to produce documents led to his being taken to the police booth.
Chayank reportedly called his brother, Tanishk, seeking assistance after being stopped by the police. In a concerning turn of events, Tanishk, along with Chayank's father Anil and cousin Badal Chaudhary, arrived at the police booth. They began verbally abusing the officers and issued threats, asserting their purported "relations with a minister." When Kuldeep requested the four men to provide their documents, the situation escalated drastically.
The assailants proceeded to drag Kuldeep out of the police booth and physically assaulted him with sticks, resulting in critical injuries to his face. Fortunately, passers-by intervened and rescued the head constable, who was subsequently admitted to a hospital for medical attention. While Chayank's family members managed to escape after the attack, Chayank himself was apprehended with the help of concerned citizens. An FIR has been lodged in connection with the incident, and South Delhi DCP Chandan Chaudhary has affirmed that strict action will be taken against the accused.
