New Delhi: Police have detained 200 people who spread violence in Delhi during the farmers' tractor parade on the occasion of Republic Day. All those detained are being interrogated. All people are accused of assaulting policemen, damaging government property, and violence. Earlier, Union Tourism Minister Prahlad Patel visited the historic Red Fort in Delhi to inspect the situation.
As soon as the minister visited the Red Fort, there was a terrible scene of vandalism at the monument, as the protestors entered the premises after breaking the barricades and clashing with the security forces. A group of protestors also hoisted their flag on the ramparts of the fort. The scenes surfaced today, with broken glass parts, scattered pieces of paper, and a ticket counter that was a victim of vandalism. A broken metal detector gate and police personnel cap can also be seen lying on the earth.
In all, Delhi Police has so far registered 22 firs in connection with the violence that erupted yesterday. More than 300 policemen were injured in the clashes that took place yesterday, officials said. Police have started an investigation into the violence and are investigating video and CCTV footage from tomorrow to identify the culprits. The police have assured stern action against the miscreants.
