Security in and around Prime Minister Narendra Modi's residence in Delhi has been heightened as the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) called for a protest, or "gherao," following the arrest of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, a police official confirmed on Tuesday.

Authorities have also increased security measures across various parts of the national capital.

A Delhi Traffic Police official mentioned potential disruptions to movement in New Delhi and Central Delhi due to the planned protest.

"We've put in place strong security measures. Multiple layers of security have been set up to ensure law and order in the vicinity," stated the Delhi Police official.

"Section 144 (of the CrPC) is already in effect around the prime minister's residence, and protests will not be permitted," the official added.

Earlier, Delhi Minister Gopal Rai declared intentions to "gherao" the prime minister's residence on Tuesday to protest Kejriwal's arrest.

Rai also indicated plans for "mega protests" nationwide.

Kejriwal was apprehended by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on March 21 in connection with a money laundering case associated with a former excise policy. He remains in ED custody until Thursday.

The AAP leader is accused of allegedly receiving kickbacks from liquor traders for favors, as per claims by the central agency.

The ED has further implicated Kejriwal as the "mastermind and main conspirator" in the defunct policy, alleging collaboration with AAP officials, ministers, and others.

Kejriwal has denied the allegations, accusing the BJP-led central government of using investigative agencies for political agendas.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Traffic Police has set up seven diversion points to ensure smooth traffic flow during the protest.

"Motorists are advised to steer clear of Kemal Ataturk Marg, Safdarjung Road, Akbar Road, and Teen Murti Marg on Tuesday due to the protest," noted an official.
