Delhi Chief Minister Atishi has pledged a "pothole-free Diwali" for residents of the capital after personally inspecting road conditions across the city.
During her visits to various locations, including NSIC Okhla, Modi Mill Flyover, Chirag Delhi, Tughlakabad Extension, Mathura Road, and Ashram Chowk, Atishi provided instructions to repair all damaged roads under the Public Works Department (PWD) before the festival.
After her inspection, Atishi said, "For two days, Arvind Kejriwal and I inspected the roads of Delhi and found that the condition of roads is very bad. Arvind Kejriwal has called on all party MLAs and ministers to prioritize restoring the roads of Delhi as soon as possible."
Atishi noted her responsibility for roads in south and south-east Delhi. Other ministers have been assigned specific areas: Saurabh Bharadwaj for East Delhi, Gopal Rai for north-east Delhi, Imran Hussain for central and New Delhi, Kailash Gehlot for south-west and Outer Delhi, and Mukesh Sehrawat for north-west Delhi. "We will strive to provide pothole-free roads to the people of Delhi by Diwali," she added.
According to the Delhi government's road assessment and repair plan, an evaluation of the 1,400-km stretch of PWD roads will take place over the next week. This assessment will determine which roads require complete repair, partial repair, or complete reconstruction. Repair work is scheduled to commence the week following the inspection.
Atishi revealed that many roads have suffered damage due to work by power companies and the Delhi Jal Board, and emphasized that necessary repairs have yet to be completed.
