New Delhi: Delhi's Rouse Avenue Court on Monday (September 12, 2022) convicted two Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs for rioting and attacking police. The court has convicted AAP MLAs Akhileshpati Tripathi and Sanjeev Jha and 15 others during the hearing of a 7-year-old case. The matter will be heard next on September 21. The sentence will also be announced in this hearing.
Earlier, during the hearing on September 7, the court had said that it is clear from the evidence and witnesses presented by the police that the two AAP MLAs were not only involved in the rioting mob but were also working to incite the crowd by shouting slogans. It was only after the instigation of these two MLAs that the mob pelted stones at the policemen. The case dates back to February 20, 2015. In this case, when an uncontrolled mob attacked the Burari police station in Delhi, injuring the policemen. All these rioters were demanding the police to release the two arrested people. Several jawans, including constable Bharat Ratan, Mohan Lal and Constable Babu, were injured in the attack.

After the conviction of two AAP MLAs, the BJP has opened a front against Arvind Kejriwal's party. Delhi BJP president Adesh Gupta tweeted an attack on Arvind Kejriwal. He wrote, 'Once again the disgusting face of AAP was revealed! 2 AAP MLAs convicted by the court for inciting riots and assaulting police. AAP has become a stronghold of such rioters and goons. Immediately dismiss these people who have torn the Constitution from the party and MLA posts Arvind Kejriwal.'
Akhileshpati Tripathi, accused of inciting riots, is an MLA from Delhi's Model Town seat. While the other accused Sanjay Jha is an MLA from Burari in Delhi. Apart from these two AAP MLAs, the court also convicted Balram Jha, Shyam Gopal Gupta, Kishore Kumar, Lalit Mishra, Jagdish Chandra Joshi, Narendra Singh Rawat, Neeraj Pathak, Raju Malik, Ashok Kumar, Ravi Prakash Jha, Ismail Islam, Manoj Kumar, Vijay Pratap Singh, Hira Devi and Yashwant.
