New Delhi: Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Delhi University today, several colleges within the university have issued guidelines for the event, sparking controversy over a dress code that bans black attire. The guidelines also include mandatory attendance for students and faculty, along with the suspension of classes between 10 am and 12 pm.

While Hindu College, Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar College, and Zakir Husain Delhi College have reportedly issued these guidelines, Hindu College Principal Anju Srivastava has denied any official notice. She stated, "It appears there is some misrepresentation," emphasizing that the administration had not issued such guidelines.

Nonetheless, screenshots of the guidelines have circulated on social media platforms, indicating the dress code restrictions and the requirement for "proper attire" while specifically avoiding black clothing. Additionally, the guidelines mention compulsory attendance for both students and faculty, along with the suspension of classes during the designated time frame.

These guidelines have triggered mixed reactions among the student body. Some students have expressed disapproval of the dress code, while others have acknowledged the importance of maintaining decorum during the Prime Minister's visit.

This is not the first time that Delhi University has implemented guidelines for a Prime Minister's visit. In 2014, during Prime Minister Modi's previous visit to the university, students were instructed to wear "smart casual" attire and advised against wearing jeans and t-shirts.
