DU: Teachers' strike continues, no agreement on any point

The protest of temporary teachers is continuing for the second consecutive day on several demands, including withdrawal of letter issued in the matter of appointments of guest teachers in DU colleges in Delhi. Earlier, the Vice Chancellor of Delhi University (DU), Prof. Yogesh Tyagi's office's main gate was broken by the teachers on Wednesday. While boycotting the exam evaluation on several demands, including the reinstatement of temporary teachers, promotion of teachers, withdrawal of the letter issued on August 28 in the appointment of guest teachers in DU colleges, on behalf of DU Teachers Association (DUTA) from Wednesday, the strike was called. In this sequence, hundreds of teachers joined the Arts faculty and reached the vice-chancellor's office and broke the lock of the main gate and entered inside. In addition to this, the teachers wrote various things against the administration and the vice-chancellor on the walls of the office in support of their demands. They also wrote slogans of independence on the office wall.

In their statement, the teachers accused the administration that temporary teachers have been working in DU for a long time but their appointments were not made while giving them permanent posts. Along with this, promotion of teachers has not been done for a long time. DUTA Chairman Prof. Rajib Ray, Vice President Alok Ranjan Pandey and many teachers were present. Teacher Hansraj Suman, Dr. Rasal Singh, member of DU's Academic Council was present.

Apart from this, DUTA vice-president Alok Ranjan Pandey said that over 4 thousand temporary teachers have been working in DU for so many years. All of them should be appointed permanently. For this, a decision should be taken in the Executive Council (EC), Academic Council (AC) of DU to be sent to MHRD. Also, pending promotion of teachers should be done. Teachers said that until their demands are not met, they will protest infront of the vice-chancellor's office.
