Chandigarh: A case of rape of a New Delhi woman by an auto-rickshaw driver in Chandigarh has come to light. He took the female passenger to the deserted place on the pretext of leaving to the station and raped her. The accused got married just a few days ago. The accused has been arrested by the police after the incident was reported.

The accused hails from the Darwa area near Chandigarh railway station. Sector 17 SHO Om Prakash has informed that the victim is a resident of New Delhi and had come to Chandigarh to meet someone, decided to return to Delhi immediately due to lack of meeting and reached Chandigarh railway station to catch the train. There was no train to Delhi at that time, so she decided to catch the bus and hired an auto-rickshaw from the railway station to Chandigarh ISBT. The auto-rickshaw driver took her to a secluded place near Chandigarh civil secretariat instead of leaving her on ISBT and rapped her.

According to police, the accused also assaulted the victim and fled leaving her on the road. A civil secretariat night guard, who was on duty, found the victim crying for help on the road. He called 112 helplines and informed the police. Chandigarh police swung into action and later arrested the accused.
