New Delhi, India: Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal convened an emergency meeting on Saturday evening to discuss the national capital's deteriorating air quality, which is now classified as 'severe.' The meeting will be attended by Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, Health Minister Satyendar Jain, Environment Minister Gopal Rai, and Chief Secretary Vijay Kumar Dev.

According to the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research, Delhi's overall air quality on Saturday morning was 499, putting it in the 'severe' category (SAFAR). According to SAFAR statistics, PM 10 and PM 2.5 pollution levels in the air were 134 and 72, respectively.

Following Delhi's 'severe' air quality, the Graded Action Response Plan (GRAP) has directed the government and private offices, as well as other institutions, to cut vehicle usage by at least 30 percent on a  'emergency' basis to minimise vehicular emission. People should also minimise their outdoor activities and reduce their exposure, according to the instruction.

To further reduce pollution from open fires in the national capital, Environment Minister Gopal Rai launched a campaign against open rubbish burning on Friday, as well as the second phase of a month-long anti-dust campaign to minimise pollution from construction and demolition activities.
