New Delhi: The Karkardooma Court in Delhi has framed charges of murder, rioting and criminal conspiracy against four accused in the case, terming the killing of a man during riots (Delhi Riots) against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in the capital last year as a planned attack. Anwar Hussain, Qasim, Shah Rukh and Khalid Ansari are accused of brutally beating and killing a man named Deepak near Ambedkar College on February 25, 2020.
According to the post mortem report, he died due to excessive bleeding. Additional Sessions Judge Amitabh Rawat framed charges against the accused persons under necessary sections. Criminals have declared themselves innocent. According to the agency, the judge said the most important witness in the case was Sunil Kumar, who was an eyewitness to the entire incident. His statement has revealed how Deepak was killed by a mob of accused holding weapons. Sunil had said, 'On February 25, a crowd of rioters was coming from Kardampuri Pulia, trying to cross Gokul Pur culvert with religious slogans. That's when they caught Deepak and brutally beat him to death.'
Eyewitnesses said that he hid behind a wall behind the drain, where he saw the murder taking place through a crack in the wall. Not only this, he identified the four accused in their names. The court said that there are grounds to hold that the four accused have committed an offence under section 147 (rioting), 148 (rioting, armed with a deadly weapon) and section 302 (murder) under section 149 (member of an unlawful group). Charges have also been framed against the accused under section 302 (murder) as well as 120B (criminal conspiracy).
In February 2020, violence erupted during protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in Delhi. At least 53 people were killed and more than 700 injured in these communal riots.
