NEW DELHI: Trinamool Congress member Derek O'Brien faced suspension from further participation in the ongoing winter session of parliament due to alleged "serious misbehavior" and for "disobeying the Chair" during Thursday morning's proceedings. The decision to suspend him was taken by the Upper House of Parliament following a motion put forward against the Trinamool representative.

The incident unfolded when O'Brien insisted on discussing a security breach event that occurred earlier, involving two individuals who breached security in the Lok Sabha by jumping from the visitors' gallery and releasing yellow smoke canisters.

Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar named O'Brien and instructed him to leave the House after disregarding warnings from the Chair. Despite this, O'Brien and other opposition members persisted in their protest, demanding the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah to address the security breach incident from the previous day.

Concurrently, the Lok Sabha Secretariat has taken action by suspending eight personnel allegedly involved in the security breach. The suspended individuals were identified as Rampal, Arvind, Vir Das, Ganesh, Anil, Pradeep, Vimitt, and Narendra.

The security breach occurred during the Lok Sabha's Zero Hour, coinciding with the 22nd anniversary of the Parliament terror attack. Two intruders, Sagar Sharma and Manoranjan D, infiltrated the House chamber, releasing yellow gas and chanting slogans before being subdued by Members of Parliament.

Additionally, outside the Parliament premises, two individuals—Amol Shinde and Neelam Devi—sprayed colored gas and voiced slogans, stating "dictatorship will not be tolerated." Police stated that these individuals, along with two others, planned the incident.

In response, opposition members in the Lok Sabha demanded a statement from the government regarding the breach of Parliament security during Thursday's session.

Speaker Om Birla emphasized that the Lok Sabha Secretariat bears responsibility for the security of the Parliament complex, stating, "It is under our jurisdiction."

Union Minister Rajnath Singh expressed concern, urging caution and condemning disturbances, asserting, "We need to be vigilant and not grant leeway to those causing disruptions," addressing the House.
