MUMBAI: Devendra Fadnavis was sworn in as the new Chief Minister of Maharashtra on Thursday evening, December 5, 2024, during a grand ceremony held in south Mumbai. The event was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with several other dignitaries.

Fadnavis, who took office for the third time as Chief Minister, was joined by two Deputy Chief Ministers in the ceremony. BJP leader Sudhir Mungantiwar confirmed that the oath of office was administered to them, and that other Cabinet members would take their oaths later.

Ajit Pawar, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief, and Eknath Shinde, Shiv Sena leader, are all set to take their oaths as Deputy Chief Ministers.

To ensure the smooth conduct of the event, over 4,000 police personnel were deployed for security. The Mumbai Police had assigned one Additional Commissioner and three Deputy Commissioners to manage traffic regulation, with an additional 30 officers and 250 enforcers in an independent unit.

Fadnavis had been unanimously elected as the leader of the Maharashtra BJP Legislature Party on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, which paved the way for his swearing-in.

The ceremony took place at Azad Maidan at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, with a strong presence of Union Ministers and Chief Ministers from BJP-led states.

Outgoing Chief Minister Eknath Shinde expressed his full support for Fadnavis, emphasizing the importance of teamwork and collective decision-making in the state's governance.
