US President-elect Donald Trump has unveiled significant appointments for his upcoming administration, including new ambassadors to Portugal and Malta, along with a special envoy for Latin America. The announcements were shared via his social media platform, Truth Social, as part of preparations for his Trump 2.0 administration.
John Arrigo, a well-known leader in the automotive industry, has been officially appointed as the next United States Ambassador to Portugal. With decades of experience as a successful entrepreneur, Arrigo has made a significant impact in the business community, particularly in West Palm Beach, Florida, where his company, Arrigo Auto Group, has flourished under his leadership. Recognized for his strong business acumen and community contributions, Arrigo's appointment is seen as a strategic move to strengthen diplomatic relations with Portugal, leveraging his leadership skills and commitment to representing America’s interests abroad.
He further praised Arrigo's leadership in West Palm Beach, Florida, over the past three decades, emphasizing his dedication to "putting America first." Arrigo currently serves as the vice president of the Arrigo Auto Group, which operates in the same region where Trump frequently hosts meetings at his Mar-a-Lago resort.
For the Republic of Malta, Somers Farkas has been appointed as the US Ambassador. Trump acknowledged her diverse achievements as a philanthropist, model, documentary producer, and businesswoman. Farkas has an extensive background in charitable work, having raised millions for organizations such as the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), the Alzheimer's Association, and the New York Women’s Foundation. Her role as a trustee of the New York City Police Foundation reflects her strong support for law enforcement.
Additionally, Trump has named Mauricio Claver-Carone as the State Department’s Special Envoy for Latin America. This appointment aims to tackle pressing issues such as illegal migration and the fentanyl crisis. Trump expressed confidence in Claver-Carone’s ability to address these challenges while prioritizing America’s interests.
These appointments mark a critical step in shaping the Trump administration’s foreign policy and domestic priorities as it prepares to take office.
