Bollywood's 'He-Man' Dharmendra is famous for his outspoken and open-hearted lifestyle. Even at the age of 88, Dharmendra is completely fit, he works out, swims and is fond of farming. There was a time when Dharmendra openly accepted his habit of drinking alcohol every day, and he talks about it without hesitation.
In Bollywood parties, we get to hear different stories about Dharmendra. It is said that when Dharmendra started drinking, he would not stop. On this, Dharmendra told in an interview that at one time he drank a lot of alcohol, but his liver always remained strong.
When Dharmendra came on Rajat Sharma's show 'Aapki Adalat', he was asked why people say that "Dharmendra never stops drinking"? On this, Dharmendra openly said that he always enjoyed life. He said, "I used to drink at parties, but my liver is still strong."
He further joked, "When I look in the mirror, the mirror tells me, 'Ishq ne mara, tujhe sharaab ne mara, milta na warna koi saani tumhara.' I too reply with a smile, 'Agar sharaab na hoti, ishq na hota, toh ye jeena bhi na hota aur peena bhi na hota.'"
When Rajat Sharma asked him whether he used to drink non-stop for several days? Dharmendra said that it was not like that. He said, "I used to quit drinking for 6-6 months in between. I used to play badminton, sweat a lot and keep myself fit. Then I used to party. I used to be a bit of an extremist too, I liked to party and keep myself fit."
When Dharmendra was asked if he was the biggest drunkard in the industry, he narrated an incident from the film 'Sholay'. Dharmendra told that during 'Sholay', cameraman Jim, who was working with him, always carried 5-6 bottles of beer with him. Dharmendra used to sit behind him and drink beer silently. One day the production people told Jim that he had drunk 12 bottles, which surprised them. Later Jim caught Dharmendra doing this. Dharmendra said smilingly, "I always say that life should be enjoyed." This outspoken style of Dharmendra and his openness towards life makes him different from others. He lived every moment to the fullest and even today he is as cheerful as ever.
