Mumbai: Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray raised concerns about the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections during an event in East Mumbai's Kurla on Monday. He emphasized that the nation is at the doorstep of dictatorship, and safeguarding India's freedom is crucial at this juncture.

Thackeray stated, "The country is going through a tough time. Who will save the country? If we make a mistake this time, there will be dictatorship in the country. The country needs freedom. There was a time when we fought for freedom, and now we have to fight to keep this freedom. I’ll do whatever I can do. There is an environment of confusion in the country. Dictatorship has come to our doorstep. We have to stop it."

Speaking at a Jain community event, he appealed to the public to be cautious in the upcoming general polls. Seeking blessings from Jain seers, Thackeray said, "I have come here to seek blessings from you. Not for any personal gain. I have the blessings of my parents and I want to make them proud. I have come here to seek your blessings for the country."

Shiv Sena (UBT), a faction that emerged after the split with the BJP in June last year, is part of the opposition INDIA bloc alliance formed to counter the BJP in the 2024 polls. Following the 2019 Maharashtra polls, Shiv Sena, under Uddhav Thackeray's leadership, severed ties with the BJP and formed the Maha Vikas Aghadi government with the NCP and the Congress.
