New Delhi: On Monday, Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal took a swipe at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) regarding the Ram temple issue, asserting that Lord Ram resides in his heart, unlike the saffron party for whom the entire matter is a "sham." Sibal accused the BJP of acting in contradiction to the qualities associated with Lord Ram.
"This whole issue is a sham. They (BJP) talk about Ram, but their conduct, their character is nowhere close to Lord Ram. Truthfulness, tolerance, sacrifice, and respect for others are some of the qualities of Lord Ram. The symptoms are there, but they do the exact opposite and say we are glorifying Ram," Sibal stated when asked about the opposition's stance on the Ram temple issue.
Responding to a question about attending the consecration ceremony of the temple on January 22, he remarked, "I have Ram in my heart, I don't do any work for show." Kapil Sibal, known for representing the sunni waqf board in the case against the Ram Temple in the Supreme Court, previously gave an affidavit (During Congress Govt) claiming Ram to be a fictional character and expressing doubt about his historical existence. Then Kapil Sibal was a Rajya Sabha MP on Congress ticket. However, his current statement suggests a different sentiment, asserting, 'I have Ram in my heart, I don't pretend.'
Earlier this month, Ram Mandir Trust General Secretary Champat Rai announced that the consecration ceremony of the temple would occur on January 22, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in attendance. Invitations were extended to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi, and party leader in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, although it is expected that these leaders will not participate in the event.
Other notable personalities receiving invitations include spiritual leader Dalai Lama, Kerala's Mata Amritanandamayi, yoga guru Baba Ramdev, and cine stars Rajinikanth, Amitabh Bachchan, Madhuri Dixit, Arun Govil, film directors Madhur Bhandarkar and Mukesh Ambani, among others.
