Lucknow: Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) Chief Jayant Chaudhary clarified on Sunday that there are currently no discussions in progress to include the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) in the opposition INDIA alliance. During the launch of the Samrasta campaign in Aheda village, Uttar Pradesh, Chaudhary emphasized that the imminent distribution of seats among the coalition's constituent parties is underway, stating, "No party has staked any claim in this regard so far." Responding to queries about the potential inclusion of BSP in the INDIA bloc, Chaudhary expressly dismissed reports of ongoing talks with the BSP and highlighted the party's autonomy in making such decisions. He referenced BSP chief Mayawati's consistent stance against joining the INDIA alliance, noting that she cannot be compelled to join the coalition against her will.
Chaudhary also addressed the recent controversy surrounding Trinamool Congress leader Kalyan Banerjee's mimicry of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar during the opposition's protest at the Parliament complex. He categorized the incident as a form of satire and asserted that no caste-related language was employed during the episode.
Regarding the Sports Ministry's decision to suspend the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) for non-compliance with its constitution, Chaudhary criticized the government's tendency to retract decisions only under external pressure. He cited the instance of athletes returning their Padma Shri awards, which prompted action from the authorities.
The WFI elections held on December 21 saw former president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh's loyalist Sanjay Singh and his panel secure resounding victories. This outcome triggered protests from wrestlers who had previously leveled allegations of sexual harassment against Brij Bhushan, which he denied.
