Mathura: Hema Malini on Friday won the Mathura Lok Sabha seat by a margin of 2,93,471 votes. On her victory, the actor-turned politican said that he was confident that she will win but she did not fathom that she would win by this big margin.
Speaking to the media persons, She said, "I knew I was going to win, but I did not fathom that I would win by this big margin. I would like to thank the people of Mathura and the nation."

She also asked about the loss of Congress in the states where they had a stronghold. Hema said, "It shows that they did not do any work." Malini had contested against Narendra Singh of the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) and local industrialist Mahesh Pathak of Congress from Mathura. In 2014, the "Dream Girl" had won by over 3 lakh votes in the constituency.

The election that started on April 11 and wrapped up on May 19, saw approximately 900 million voters exercising their franchise and deciding the fate of 7,928 candidates across 542 seats in the country. Out of those candidates, 724 were women and four were transgenders.
