Mumbai: Uruguay's star footballer Diego Forlan has expressed a great desire for the Indian football team. He described his playing experience in India as fantastic. With this, he expressed his desire to become the coach of the Indian team in future. Forlan, who played for Mumbai City FC in the ISL, said in response to a question, "Definitely I would like to come back to India. Why not as a coach only. I have had a great experience playing here. The people here warmly welcomed me and my family.
I have a good friendship with some of the players here. Forlan, who was the best player of the World Cup 2010, has obtained the license of football coaching from South America, so that he can give coaching in any country of Asia including India except South America. However, he intends to get a coaching license in Europe. Impressed by the growth of Indian football, the star footballer from Manchester United and Atletico Madrid said that India will take time to get into strong teams and it requires better infrastructure besides working at the ground level.
The forward, who has achieved many achievements in his 13-year (2002 to 2015) brilliant international career, said, "It is not that India is lacking in talent but some aspects need to be worked on." As much as I have seen Indian players, they are hard-working, are aware of fitness and lack of skills. There is a need to create a large pool of players at the ground level.
