Many Congress leaders have raised questioned the air strikes carried out by the Indian Air Force across the Line of Control (LoC) in Balakot in Pakistan. The party demanded the proof of number of casualties inflicted on the Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terrorists. Senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh who had asked the Modi-led NDA government of evidence of the air strikes, raked up the issue of proof of strikes but crossed the line by terming the February 14, Pulwama terror attack as an accident.

Attack PM Modi led government, Digvijaya tweeted that "the air strikes carried out by the Indian Air Force in response to the Pulwama accident is being questioned by the International media."

Senior congress leader has triggered a backlash from across sections in the country for terming the Pulwama terror attack, in which at least 40 CRPF personnel lost their lives, as an 'accident'.

On Digvijaya's comment, Union minister VK Singh reacted strongly asking the Congress leader if the "assassination of former PM Rajiv Gandhi was an accident or terror incident."

Earlier Congress leaders Kapil Sibal and Navjot Singh Sidhu have also raised questions over the air strikes. While Navjot Singh Sidhu asked "if the strike was to uproot terrorists or trees", Kapil Sibal quoted international media to say that "hardly anyone had died in the air strikes at Balakot". West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has also questioned the authenticity of the air strikes.
